My very first turtle was a walnut shell stuffed with clay and has small stones for the head and feet. This turtle was given to me by my mom when I was a young teen, after I had lost my Desert Tortoise "Speedy".

Speedy would live in the backyard during the summer and in a box under my bed during the winter hibernation. He loved ice plant, lettuce and bananas. I once entered him into a Turtle/Tortoise race, he never even moved. In fact he was the only turtle that didn't make it out of the inner circle. I buried Speedy in a box under a cactus in the side yard. This page is a tribute to Speedy.
